National Occupational Standards (NOS) is a core part of India’s current efforts to develop a standardized and high quality vocational and Education system.

National Occupational Standard will specify the standard and performance an individual must achieve when carrying out a function in the workplace, together with the knowledge and understanding they need to meet that Standard consistently.

Use of National Occupational Standard for Organisations

National Occupational Standards form a nationally agreed set of competencies. They can be used to support any organization to:

  • Improve recruitment and the composition of teams through job descriptions, person specifications and effective interviewing
  • Ensure staff are clear about their responsibilities and work activities
  • Help to develop and retain a skilled, motivated and flexible work force

  • National Occupational Standard will identify learning and skills needs and act as a basis for qualifications
