NATIONAL OCCUPATIONAL STANDARDS (NOS)
National Occupational Standards (NOS) is a core part of India’s current efforts to develop a standardized and high quality vocational and Education system.
National Occupational Standard will specify the standard and performance an individual must achieve when carrying out a function in the workplace, together with the knowledge and understanding they need to meet that Standard consistently.
Use of National Occupational Standard for Organisations
National Occupational Standards form a nationally agreed set of competencies. They can be used to support any organization to:
- Improve recruitment and the composition of teams through job descriptions, person specifications and effective interviewing
- Ensure staff are clear about their responsibilities and work activities
- Help to develop and retain a skilled, motivated and flexible work force
- Appraise individual performance and provide focused feedback to staff

- Undertake work based assessment, which does not involve extensive time away on courses

Use of National Occupational Standard for Training & Education Providers
- National Occupational Standard will identify learning and skills needs and act as a basis for qualifications
- Make programmes more relevant to employer’s needs
- Provide clear goals for structured learning & define learning outcomes
- National Occupational Standard enables providers to identify gaps in provision.
